Matcha Green Tea Cupcakes Recipe

Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too? The extra ingredient of matcha green tea powder in this recipe really gives this cupcake that added kick that everyone will be sure to love!

The Matcha Cupcake


Ingredients you will need for the Matcha Green Tea Cupcakes:

·      2 cups of flour, sifted

·      ¼ teaspoon of salt

·      ½ tablespoon of baking powder

·      1 ½ cups of sugar

·      6 oz of unsalted butter at room temperature

·      2 large eggs

·      1 large egg yolk

·      2/3 cups of milk

·      2 tablespoons of matcha green tea powder (can add less or more depending on how much green tea flavor you would like)

Directions:

1.     Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a cupcake or muffin pan with 24 cupcake liners

2.     In a large bowl, mix together your dry ingredients: flour, salt, baking powder, and matcha green tea powder

3.     With an electric mixer, or by hand, beat together your butter and sugar until smooth, about 3 minutes

4.     Beat in your eggs one at a time until everything is evenly incorporated

5.     Slowly add in your dry ingredients and milk and mix until everything is fully distributed

6.     Evenly pour your batter into your cupcake liners, making sure to only fill ¾ of the way full

7.     Bake for 18-20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean

8.     Allow cupcakes to cool on a wire rack and proceed to make the Matcha Buttercream Frosting


The Matcha Buttercream Frosting


Ingredients you will need for the Matcha Buttercream Frosting:

·      1 stick of unsalted butter at room temperature

·      3 cups of powdered sugar, sifted

·      2 tablespoons of milk

·      2 tablespoons of matcha green tea powder (can add less or more depending on how much green tea flavor you would like)

Directions:

1.     Slowly whisk together the butter and powdered sugar, incorporating the sugar in batches

2.     Add the milk and matcha green tea powder and beat until light and fluffy

Assembling Both

1.     Add the Matcha Buttercream Frosting into a piping bag (you may also use a zip lock bag with a corner snipped off)

2.     Pipe the frosting over each cupcake

3.     Serve and enjoy!
